In contrast to neighbouring Brighton in Sussex, Hampshire's openly gay scene is still developing. Gay capitals in Hampshire centre around the university cities of Southampton and Portsmouth where you'll find a good choice of gay friendly pubs, bars, and clubs. Andover and Basingstoke in north Hampshire also have developing gay scenes with gay friendly bars in the town. Hampshire Police has been recognised as one of the most gay friendly workplaces in Britain and are actively working to tackle homophobic incidents.
