Ferry to Isle of Wight Ferries Portsmouth Southampton Lymington Ryde Fishbourne Cowes Yarmouth

Getting to the Isle of Wight is easy and quick with a fantastic choice of ferry options whether it's as a foot passenger for a day trip or a longer stay taking the family, car and pets. Car ferries run from Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington on the Hampshire mainland. Alternatively you can pick up fast hovercraft and catamaran services at Southsea, Portsmouth or Southampton. Services run throughout the year and you don't even need to book on the faster foot passengers services.

Ferries cross the Solent to Isle of Wight landing at East Cowes, West Cowes, Fishbourne, Ryde and Yarmouth.

Southampton to Cowes Ferries

Red Funnel Ferries run the Red Jet Hi-Speed passenger catamarans service to Cowes. It's a foot passenger ferry service only and you don't even need to book - just turn up and travel. The journey takes just 23 minutes and runs throughout the year, seven days a week.

Red Funnel Ferries also run a car passenger ferry service from Southampton to East Cowes. Crossings depart hourly and take just under an hour. These are the largest ferries running services to the Isle of Wight and not only take foot passengers but all sizes of vehicles that will fit under a motorway bridge.

There is a bar, coffee bar and cafe on board as well as a games area and outdoor deck. It is free to take bicycles or pets across and you'll need to report to terminal staff on arrival to organise appropriate storage.

Portsmouth to Isle of Wight Ferry Fishbourne Ryde

Passenger ferries run from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight. There is a choice of the Wightlink's car and passenger ferry which lands at Fishbourne or the Fastcat service which takes foot passengers only, taking you to Ryde.

Wightlink Ferries run all year round to both Fishbourne or Ryde. The Portsmouth to Fishbourne journey takes 40 minutes and Portsmouth to Ryde is just 18 minutes.

Services run very regularly throughout the day making it an easy hop across the Solent. Leaving the port you get some fantastic views of the Portsmouth Waterfront and Spinnaker Tower.

Cowes Chain Link Ferry

Connecting East Cowes to West Cowes is Cowes Ferry, a chain link ferry also known as the Floating Bridge. It operates every day of the year from 5am on Mondays-Saturdays and 6.35am on Sundays. The ferry takes foot passengers, cars, lorries and motorcycles until around midnight.

You cannot pre-book but just turn up and board. Crossings are free to foot passengers and cyclists.

Tolls are applicable for vehicles and are collected on board.

Southsea Portsmouth to Ryde Hovercraft Ferry

Hovertravel run a regular service to Ryde on east of The Isle of Wight. Hovercrafts run at least every half hour and the journey only takes 10 minutes, making it the quickest crossing from the mainland to the Isle of Wight - great for a day trip. It takes foot passengers only, although you can take your bike over free of charge.

If you're travelling to Southsea by car there is a mix of pay and display and street parking around Clarence Pier.

Lymington to Yarmouth Ferry

Ferries to Yarmouth on the west side of the Isle of Wight run regularly from Lymington near the New Forest on the Hampshire mainland. Wightlink run the quickest car ferry service to Yarmouth taking just 30 minutes. Sailings run throughout the day and night all year round.
