Brockenhurst Tourist Guide New Forest Hampshire
Brockenhurst is relatively centrally located in the New Forest National Park. It's the location for the annual New Forest and Hampshire County Show that attracts thousands over the three days it's held in the summer.
Brockenhurst is a main hub for public transport in the New Forest and has a good choice of shops, pubs, restaurants and regular local produce markets. From Brockenhurst there are a network of cycle and walking routes excellent for seeing more of the New Forest's ancient woodlands and heathlands. For a more leisurely tour you can hop on the New Forest Open Top Bus for a tour around the main villages of the national park.

Brockenhurst Tourist Information
Brockenhurst is fairly central in the New Forest National Park. The village green is often populated by grazing horses and cattle.
Brockenhurst lies between Lymington and Lyndhurst and is on the main Weymouth to London railway line. The main bus interchange for the New Forest area is in Brockenhurst making it an easy location to visit by public transport. There's a large public car park behind the main High Street close the main shopping area.
It's a large village and has a good choice of amenities including pubs, shops and tearooms. There are regular Farmers' and Producers' Markets on Sundays where you can pick up local produce direct from the farmers and commoners of the New Forest.
St Nicholas Church Brockenhurst
St Nicholas Church, situated on top of a hill, is believed to date from Pagan times. The mound on which it stands was built up around that time. There are Roman bricks and second and third century masonry built into the south porch.
In the churchyard is a yew tree known as the Great Yew-tree. It's renowned as the oldest tree in the New Forest at over 1,000 years old.
There are around one hundred soldiers from New Zealand and India buried in the cemetery at St Nicholas Church. They died in the field hospitals at Brockenhurst during the First World War. An annual memorial service is held on the nearest Sunday to Anzac Day.
New Forest and Hampshire County Show Brockenhurst
The New Forest and Hampshire County Show is held at New Park in Brockenhurst. It's regarded as one of the best agricultural and equestrian shows in the country. It is held over three days during the summer and incorporates traditional breeds, skills and vegetable and competitions, animal races, showjumptin, food and craft marquees, flower show and many more events that should keep the family occupied all day.
During the event there is free parking and a pay-as-you-go shuttle bus service from the Brockenhurst mainline station. The show attracts in the region of 90,000 visitors, so book accommodation early and prepare yourself for traffic congestion in the area while the show's on.
New Park is a historic park where red and fallow deer graze throughout the year. It is surrounded by ancient woodland and is often the site for a variety of events throughout the year such as caravan club rallies and regular polo matches for the New Forest Polo Club.

New Forest Walks
Brockenhurst is the setting off point for several walks and cycle rides in the New Forest.
The National Park weblink right has downloadable leaflets for a circular walk around Brockenhurst and one for a circular walk along the Lymington River from Brockenhurst.
The Forestry Commission's New Forest Cycle Network links with the railway station - making it easier to have a car-free tour round. The New Forest Cycle Network covers 100 miles of trails throughout the New Forest National Park. It mixes off-road cycling with on road routes.
New Forest Tour - Open Top Bus
Brockenhurst is on the New Forest Tour bus route. This takes you around the New Forest National Park stopping off at other New Forest towns and villages like Lyndhurst, Lymington, Beaulieu and attractions such as Exbury Gardens.
You can use the bus to see the New Forest, take your bike with you to access some of the 100 miles of cycle trails or use the daily Hop on Hop off ticket to link up some circular walks.
