Burley Tourist Information
Burley is a typical New Forest village in the south west of the National Park. It's something of a centre for New Forest visitors with tea rooms, gift and sweet shops and horses, donkeys and cattle roaming the streets.
Burley was on the old smugglers' route between Lymington and Ringwood where they used to stop off at the Queen's Head pub where some of their booty was squirrelled away in the cellar!
Burley has also been associated with witches. The latest was in the 1950s when a self-confessed white witch, Sybil Leek, lived in Burley
The village has retained its old world charm and is surrounded by forest and heathland for you to explore. There are some particularly ancient oak trees known by particular names such as the ancient oaks at Burley Lodge called "The Twelve Apostles" and the "Wilverley Oak" which was used to hang highwaymen and smuggles in the eighteenth century.
